Monte da Sapaleira is 2h30m from Lisbon, 3h30m from Seville, 30 minutes from Lagos (the nearest city), 5-minutes from Aljezur, the local county seat, and within 10-15 minutes of the best beaches of the Costa Vicentina.

 

 

By car

From Porto or Lisbon:
1 – From Porto take the A1 to Lisbon. From Lisbon take the A2 south / Algarve.
2 – At km 104 take exit # 9 to Grândola. At the roundabout take the IC4 towards Sines.
3 – Before arriving to Sines, follow the sign to the Algarve. Then you have two options: either go straight ahead, the N120 towards Aljezur (will pass within towns of Cercal and Odemira), or, always follows along the coast, which is the most pleasant option.
4 – So if this is your preference, when passing through the refinery near Sines, turn right towards Porto Covo and before arriving in Porto Covo turn towards Vila Nova de Milfontes.
5 – When you reach Vila Nova de Milfontes go straight through the roundabout.
6 – Turn right after a gas station in the direction of Cape Sardão / Zambujeira.
7 – After 2 km turn left to Zambujeira.
8 – Follow the signs to São Teotónio.
9 – When you reach Sao Teotonio, follow the signs to Aljezur / Lagos.
10 – Before reaching Aljezur, in the town of Rogil, turn left at the traffic lights (next to the schools) and follow this street about 2 km which ends in a fork in the road.
11 – At the fork, turn right. After about 400 meters you will enter the small village of Carrascalinho where you will find Monte da Sapaleira just ahead on your right.

Starting from Spain (the International Guadiana Bridge) or Faro:

1- Take the A22 (Via do Infante) towards Portimão / Lagos and exit the motorway only where the A22 ends (in a roundabout near the village of Bensafrim).
2 – At the roundabout take the direction Sines / Aljezur and follow the N120 to Aljezur.
3 – When you reach Aljezur, go up the street next to the headquarters of the Volunteer Fire Dept. – Rua dos Bombeiros, and at the end turn left. Follow this road (about 5 km) to the village of Carrascalinho.
4 – Monte da Sapaleira is located at the top of the village, on the left, at the end of the long row of houses.

By Air: The nearest airport is in Faro (115 km).
